Pace is a known troublemaker, but is needed by some applications who demand piracy protection. I assume you have looked over the list and recognize all the 3rd party software as something you still use, is up-to-date and El Capitan compatible. There might be more information available from your install.log that can be observed using the Console App from your Utilities folder. Perhaps it is unable to complete the process because those permissions are incorrect, so it just keeps trying. Note that it isn't really Dropbox normal operations that was caught using 56% of a CPU, but it was attempting top auto-update itself, which doesn't happen that often and should go smoothly if everything is setup properly. They just change some permissions on Dropbox files, so even if they didn't work for some reason, re-installing Dropbox would almost certainly fix the situation. Those commands are relatively simple ones, as long as you copy and paste them into Terminal and don't try to re-type them. The only thing I can think of that I changed was to update Remote Desktop Client (July 8 and another July 9) not that I ever use it. I have switched to internal audio, disabled all Audio Units, reinstalled RME drivers & firmware, reinstalled Logic, reinstalled El Capitan but no luck. One day all is well, working on a music project on a deadline and the next morning I've got extremely slow meters and graphics, beach balls, and crashes with messages such as "Out of memory" along with the Force Quit box coming up. ![]()
